
UC Irvine Overpowers Cal Baptist, 13-5

IRVINE, Calif. --- Freshman Matt Skinner scored a career-high five goals to lead 12th-ranked UC Irvine over California Baptist, 13-5, in a non-conference game at Anteater Aquatics Complex Wednesday night.
Skinner scored one goal each in the first and second quarters, then added three consecutive scores to close out the third quarter as the Anteaters improved to 14-11 on the season.
Lovre Milos scored three goals to lift his season total to 87 and freshman goalie Byron Rivers registered a career-high 21 saves.
UCI built a 5-1 lead after one quarter and was up 7-3 at intermission. The 'Eaters broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Lancers, 5-1, to extend the lead to 12-4.
Five different players scored for Cal Baptist, which fell to 13-18 on the season. Lancers' goalie Joseph Moorman had 14 stops.
"We executed defensively tonight," UCI head coach Marc Hunt said. "That's what we want this time of the year. Lovre and (Kyle) Trush did a great job on their assignments.
"Going into Saturday's game, we felt we needed to have a great defensive showing tonight.
"Skinner had some very nice outside shots against a strong goalie for Cal Baptist."
UCI hosts UC Santa Barbara Saturday at 12:00 p.m. on Senior Day in the season's home finale at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
