UCI COMPETES AT SOCAL TOURNEY

● Ninth-ranked UC Irvine, 10-4 overall, competes in the SoCal Tournament, hosted by UCLA, this weekend.  Coach Marc Hunt's 'Eaters open against No. 8 UC San Diego Saturday morning at 9:25 at Spieker Aquatics Center.

● The teams have met once before this season, with UC San Diego pulling out a 10-9 win in the NorCal Classic at Stockton Sept. 20.

● Depending on the outcome of Saturday morning's games, UCI will face either top-ranked UCLA or No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn Saturday afternoon.

● This weekend's SoCal Tournament features 16 of the nation's top-20 ranked teams, including the top 12.

● UCI is coming off a 12-6 loss at No. 2 Stanford last Saturday.  Freshman Matt Skinner led the 'Eaters with three goals, all in the second quarter.  The game was tighter than the final score indicated as there was just a two-goal differential early in the fourth quarter.

● After this weekend's four games, UCI will make its 2014 home opener Oct. 18 at 12:00 pm. versus Pacific in an MPSF game at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.

UCI TEAM NOTES

● Sophomore Lovre Milos leads UCI with 58 goals on the season.  Milos, a transfer from UCLA, leads the MPSF in scoring at 4.14 goals per game.  He scored the game-winning goal in sudden-death overtime in the 12-11 win over Pepperdine Sept. 21 at the NorCal Classic.    He has scored at least five goals in eight games this season.

● Senior Jacob Mourer has 28 goals for the season.  He ranks 14th in the MPSF with a scoring average of 2.00 goals per game.  Mourer has scored 109 goals in his Anteater career.

● Freshman Matt Skinner has scored 25 goals this season, including a team-high three in last Saturday's loss at Stanford.

● Sophomore Kyle Trush has scored 16 goals for the 'Eaters this season.  He is the team's leading returning scorer from last season when he scored 35 as a true freshman.

● Other double-digit scorers for UCI this season are senior Alan Robertson (13 goals) and junior Jared Osborn (10).

● Junior goalie Dylan Peterson has started 12 games this season and has recorded 103 saves.  He ranks second in the MSPF with an average of 11.85 saves per game.

● True freshman goalie Byron Rivers ranks first in the MPSF with an average of 13.01 saves per game.  He had a season-high 15 saves in the 12-11, sudden-death overtime win over Pepperdine at the NorCal Classic Sept. 21.
