IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's tennis has its sights set on the top of the Big West yet again for the 2014-15 men's tennis season.

The 'Eaters have returned to the courts for the fall after taking place in the ITA West Regionals in Malibu, Calif. last weekend. They continue the fall slate with trips to Los Angeles, Calif. and Phoenix, Ariz.

The regular season gets going in mid-January with the six-wide starter in Tucson, Ariz. The 'Eaters began 2014 with six matches in Albuquerque, N.M. alongside Arizona and New Mexico. The 2015 campaign includes Texas Tech who finished 2014 ranked 41st and claims ranked singles players, No. 43 Felipe Soares and No. 65 Hugo Dojas.

The Anteaters continue on its daunting road run to start the season with trips to UCLA and USC. Both schools reached the final four of last season's NCAA Tournament with the Trojans taking the crown. Together, the schools claim nine ranked singles players in the preseason.

UCI promptly returns home for its first Big West matchup on Sunday, Feb. 8, against UC Santa Barbara. The match will be the first of five to take place at Newport Beach Tennis Club.

The 'Eaters follow that up with a return to the road for a pair in Las Vegas, Nev. as part of the UNLV Rebel Classic. No. 29 Boise State headlines the weekend with a Valentine's Day meeting followed by host UNLV along with No. 123 singles player, Ace Matias. No. 47 Pepperdine completes the road trip in sunny Malibu, Calif.

From that point on, UC Irvine boasts 15 of the remaining 17 matches at home. The home stretch is headlined by three doubleheaders including March 1 at Newport Beach Tennis Club against Northern Arizona and Boston College. No. 71 St. John's is the lone ranked school on the ledger visiting March 9.

An armed forces weekend is schedule for March 13-14 as the Air Force Academy and Army will all compete with the 'Eaters at Newport Beach Tennis Club.

The Anteaters' lone road jaunts come in the form of Big West matches with trips to UC Riverside, March 12, and Cal Poly, April 3.

The Big West Tournament rounds out the tennis season Apr. 23-26 at Indian Wells Tennis Garden once again. After swiping the Big West regular season title in 2013 with a 5-1 conference mark, UCI slipped to fifth place in the conference while sporting an 11-18 overall record.

The program graduates its lone senior in Ryan Cheung, but a pair of seniors in Shuhei Shibahara and Rafael Davidian man the front line in 2014-15. Five remain of the SoCal Six led by Tyler Pham and Jonathan Hammel. Three newcomers join the squad in freshmen Andrew Gong and Sebastian Heim while junior transfer, Nico Mertens, adds more depth coming from Nicholls State University.
