Home Opener for UC Irvine Saturday at Noon

UCI HOSTS PACIFIC SATURDAY, ALUMNI GAME SUNDAY

● Tenth-ranked UC Irvine, after playing its first 18 games of the season away from Irvine, opens its 2014 home schedule against No. 7 Pacific Saturday at noon.  The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game is the first meeting of the season between the teams.

● UCI hosts the annual Alumni game Sunday at noon.

● The 'Eaters travel to Long Beach State next Saturday before hosting California Sunday, Oct. 26, at noon in MSPF contests.

● UCI plays five of its last eight regular-season games at home.

● Admission is free to UCI men's water polo home games this season.

● UCI went 2-2 in last weekend's SoCal Tournament at UCLA.  The 'Eaters defeated St. Francis Brooklyn, 15-7, and Pepperdine, 16-9, and sustained losses to UC San Diego, 8-7 in overtime, and 11-10 to Princeton.


UCI TEAM NOTES

● Sophomore Lovre Milos leads UCI and the MPSF with 70 goals and a scoring average of 3.89 per game.  He has scored at least five goals in eight games this season.

● Freshman Matt Skinner has scored 31 goals and senior Jacob Mourer 29 for the 'Eaters this year.

● Other double-digit scorers for UCI are senior Alan Robertson and sophomore Kyle Trush with 19 each, junior Jared Osborn (16), junior Larson Pfeil and freshman Ryan Warde 13 apiece, and senior Justin Papa with 11.

● Freshman goalie Byron Rivers ranks first in the MPSF with an average of 12.06 saves per game and junior Dylan Peterson is second in the league with an average of 11.95 stops per contest.
