IRVINE, Calif. --- Redshirt junior Michael Breslin put up a pair of shutouts over the weekend elevating his game to Big West Defensive Player of the Week level.
The keeper stopped four shots against UC Davis to drop them to their first loss of the season, 1-0, Thursday night, and turned around and shut down Sacramento State, 2-0, Saturday night by knocking aside three more shots.
Breslin upped his season total to 43 saves and jumped Quinn Vega for sixth all-time in program history with 174 career saves while also lowering his goals-against-average on the year to 0.87.
The shutout was his fourth of the season, which have all come at home, and 14th of his career levelling him with Ryan Mathy and Cameron Rossi for the second-most in 'Eater history. He passed another duo in Tyler Reid and Chris Taylor on the all-time win list with 27 now after recording wins No. 9 and 10.
Breslin is the second 'Eater to win the defensive award joining Mats Bjurman nearly a month ago. It's the fourth overall award along with Gor Kirakosyan's pair of offensive honors. Its his second award joining the one he earned to close out the 2013 regular season.
He will look to keep his home shutout streak alive this week on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 7:00 p.m. as UCI welcomes in Cal State Fullerton.
