UC Irvine's 4th-Quarter Rally Thwarted by Late Princeton Goal

LOS ANGELES, Calif. ---
UC Irvine's fourth-quarter rally was thwarted by a late Princeton goal as the Tigers defeated the Anteaters, 11-10, in the ninth-place game of the SoCal Tournament at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center Sunday evening.

UCI, trailing 10-8 midway through the final quarter, drew even on goals by Jared Osborn (4:07) and Kyle Trush (1:32) before Princeton's Jordan Colina scored the game-winner with 26 seconds left in regulation.

The 'Eaters led 5-4 at halftime as Lovre Milos scored the lone goal of the second quarter.

Milos, Ryan Warde and Chris Swieca netted third-quarter goals for ninth-ranked UCI and Jamie Kuprenas scored Princeton's fourth goal of the period with 36 seconds remaining to tie the game entering the fourth.

Thomas Nelson (6:42) and Drew Hoffenberg (5:48) scored for the 10th-ranked Tigers to build a 10-8 lead to open the fourth quarter before UCI rallied to tie the game.

Milos led UCI (12-6) with three goals and Matt Skinner scored twice.

UCI, after 18 consecutive games away from Irvine to open the season, hosts Pacific in the 2014 home opener Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
