QUICK HITS

Another busy week for the Anteaters starts at No. 1 UCLA Monday (Jan.27) at 7:00 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion. The match will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.

UCI returns home to host UC San Diego Friday (Jan. 31) at 7:00 p.m. in the Bren Center.

It will be a double dose of the Bruins as UCLA will travel to the Bren Center on Saturday (Feb. 1) for a 7:00 p.m. match. 

The Anteaters trail UCLA 16-40 in the series records.

UCI won two of three matches last year. UCI won a pair of 3-2 matches first at the UCSB Invitational then in Los Angeles. The Bruins took the last meeting 3-1 in Irvine. The Anteaters hit a season-low .183 in the loss.

The Bruins are 6-1 overall and 3-0 in league action.

UCI enters the week 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the MPSF.

Including tonight's match, UCI will have played eight of the first 10 matches on the road.

UCI holds a 36-7 lead over the Tritons with the Anteaters winning the last five outings. UCSD is looking for its first win of the year, going 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the MPSF.

Last week, UCI won its first five-set match of the year with a 3-2 victory over UC Santa Barbara. The Anteaters won the first two sets and had to hang on and win 17-15 in the final game. UCI had to battle back in the final stanza after being down 14-12.

Zack La Cavera led UCI against the Gauchos with 16 kills and a career-high six aces. His six aces was tied for second in the UCI match records.

Freshman Tamir Hershko added 10 kills, while outside hitters Connor Hughes and Kyle Russell each had eight kills, which was a season-best best for Russell. Freshman setter Michael Saeta had a career-high 53 set assists, a match-high 10 digs and four block assists. Middle blocker Scott Kevorken posted a season and team-high seven total blocks to go with five kills and middle blocker Collin Mehring had six kills and six total blocks.

The Anteaters had a season-high 14.5 blocks and 11 aces against UCSB.

UCI has started the same starting lineup only twice this year.

UCI is 1-3 in five set matches this year.
