COSTA MESA, Calif. --- Host UC Irvine is in second place following Monday's first 36 holes of the 34th Anteater Invitational at Mesa Verde Country Club.
The 'Eaters have a two-round total of 579, four shots behind team leader Long Beach State (575). Sacramento State is third at 581.
UCI junior Pete Fernandez shot a 4-under 67 in the first round and had a 72 in the afternoon to sit in second place with a 3-under total of 139, one shot behind individual leader Kevin Lee (138) of Long Beach State.
Anteater senior Travis Russell is in seventh place at 143 (70-73), junior Bhuvan Potluri is ninth at 146 (74-72), senior Ryan Knapp is 31st at 151 (78-73) and sophomore Jacob Schulze is 38th at 156 (79-77).
Freshmen Ryan O'Connor and Bryan Shin are competing as individuals with O'Connor 31st at 151 (74-77) and Shin 40th at 158 (78-80).
The final 18 holes are scheduled for Tuesday.
