SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- The Anteaters tied a program record with 22 goals to down Cal State Monterey Bay to start day two of the UCSB Winter Invite.
UCI (3-0) scored an unprecedented nine goals in the first period against the Otters. CSUMB (0-4) got on the board in the second quarter, but trailed going into the half, 14-1.
Annika Nelson stopped six shots and paced her defense which shut out the Otters in the second half. McKenna Mitchell and Michaela Pierandozzi led the way on offense with three goals each amongst the nine multiple-goal scorers for UCI.
The 22 goals match the program's high set in a 22-1 victory over Vanguard in 2011.
UC Irvine will complete the invite today at 1:50 p.m. with the fourth-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils.
