LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- UC Irvine continued its treacherous, early schedule falling, 7-0, to the second-ranked Bruins of UCLA Wednesday afternoon at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Bruins (1-0) powered through doubles with wins and Nos. 1 and 2. UCLA also took five of the six opening sets with Tyler Pham salvaging his set, 6-3, over 64th-ranked Karue Sell.
Top-ranked Clay Thompson clinched the match over Ryan Cheung at the No. 1 position, 6-2, 6-4, dropping the 'Eaters to 1-6 on the year.
UCI (1-6) remains ranked 74th in the nation, and take a short break until Sat. Feb. 1 when it heads south to face San Diego and UC San Diego.
