STAR-STUDDED SENIORS

UC Irvine's senior class leaves behind a legacy that has built the foundation for future success with 84 wins, a great run of Big West titles, and its first two trips to the NCAA Tournament.

The seniors combined to score 188 goals in their four years with the program led by Kelsey Klatt's 104 and 35 this season. Klatt also rose up as the team's primary sprinter collecting over 250 sprint wins and an 80% win percentage in addition to having a hand in all aspects of the offense and stout defense.

Layne Kipp and Taylor Morrison were thrust into starting roles in 2013 and performed marvelously. Morrison nabbed 20 steals and 11 field blocks while Kipp assisted on 19 goals.

Devin Crothers and Rebecca Voytilla saw limited action, but made the most of it. Crothers had an impressive six field blocks in nearly half as many matches as the rest of the team, and scored a goal on every four shots she took. Voytilla earned her share of exclusions while also earning five assist and four steals.

JUNIOR POWER

UCI's junior class provided some serious firepower in 2013 scoring 83 of the 'Eaters' 255 goals amongst just three players.

Hannah Croghan stepped up leading the team in both goals (42) and steals (49) while also supplying 26 assists and double-digit field blocks and earned exclusions. She even added a six-goal game against Pacific, just the fifth time that mark has been eclipsed.

Together with Hillary Estrada, the pair ran to offense extremely well. Estrada had 20 goals scoring at a 50% clip. Her game went far beyond scoring with her 29 steals and 30 earned exclusions, and led the team with 41 assists and 17 field blocks, both program records.

Michaela Pierandozzi was a major piece to the puzzle for UCI which was felt after she missed the first quarter of the season. She returned to score 21 goals and become the second player to earn 50 exclusions in a season joining the mark of 53 she set last season.

SOPHOMORE SENSATIONS

The Anteaters' small sophomore class still packs a punch. Jillian Yocum has flourished into a top-flight goaltender, and Mary Jane O'Neill has made great improvements in the last year both in and out of the pool.

Jillian Yocum is quickly making her way up the Anteater ranks after a 269-save, 5.78 GAA season. The 178 goals allowed by the Anteater defense is the least allowed in program history which can thank Yocum's 269 saves a great deal which come in as the second-most in a single season. Her 465 career saves place her third in the Anteater ranks. Yocum stopped double-digit shots in half, or 14, of her matches in 2013. Her high-water mark coming against CSUB with 14. She also earned the 'Eaters' only player of the week honor showing a precursor of what could be a special water polo career.

Mary Jane O'Neill didn't quite put up the statistics in 2013, but her impact at UCI could not be measured. She has made enormous strides in the classroom and will be a force to be reckoned with going forward in the pool.

FRESHMEN FIRED UP

The freshmen burst onto the scene at a time when UC Irvine needed someone to step up. The class came together for 117 total goals. McKenna Mitchell's 41 and Cambria Shockley's 27 set the tone. Emily Carlson emerged as a versatile tool with double-digits in three statistics along with being a possible sprint candidate in years to come. Kelsey Thornton's vision earned her 15 assists and 16 steals solidifying her presence as a ballhawk.

Other notable feats came from goalkeeper Annika Nelson who stepped in to stop 44 shots and provide a 5.84 GAA in her 137 minutes. Ambyr Stewart showed an aggressive nature coming on late with 13 goals. Hanna Lancaster and Tess de Lange each got their feet wet and showed some potential, while the lone international player, Nicole Schmidt, got into the act with three goals.
