NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- A kick down the home stretch lifted Riley Martin to the title of the 1500 meters Saturday in the Big West Conference Championships at Cal State Northridge.
Martin, a sophomore, won the race with a time of 3:49.68, becoming the second Anteater runner in the past three years to win the event at the conference meet. Sam Hyams placed sixth in 3:51.95.
Alex Campbell finished second in the high jump with a career-best mark of 6-9 ½ while Mason Miller was third in the shot put at 57-4 ¼, which improves his No. 3 mark in UCI history.
Trevor Lawrence placed sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 176-6, seventh-best in the Anteater record book.
Jake Williams finished sixth in the 800 meters in 1:54.24, with Kyle Hubbard (54.35) and Mike Graf (55.72), finishing seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the 5,000 meters, Alex Tebbe was seventh (15:18.49) and Matt Neev eighth (15:20.19) to also earn team points for the 'Eaters.
UCI's 4x100 relay of Mike Kennedy, Julian Lujan, Graf and Matt Tyson finished fifth with a time of 42.06.
The 4x400 relay of Tyson, Kyle Hubbard, Lujan and Cameron Vaca was seventh in 3:17.50.
UCI finished sixth in the team competition with 58 points as Long Beach State won the title with 176.50.
