Anteater Alum Brad Evans Joins National Team in Honduras for WCQ

IRVINE, Calif. --- After months of training with the U.S. national team, Brad Evans is finally getting his shot with the squad as it travels to Honduras for its World Cup qualifier match Wednesday.

Evans has never played in a World Cup qualifier, but played as a right back for the U.S. in the second half of last week's exhibition against Canada and has eight caps overall with the squad. Evans is listed as a defender on the national team's 24-man roster, of which 23 will dress for the match.

Evans played at UC Irvine from 2003-06. In 75 matches, he accumulated the second-most points, 73, and goals, 31, in program history including 10 game-winners. He was drafted in 2007 by the Columbus Crew in the 2nd round, 15th overall. He started with the Crew on its 2008 MLS Cup-winning squad before heading to the Seattle Sounders in 2009 where he ranks near the top in most of the organization's all-time offensive categories.

National team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann said of Evans that he, "had a very, very impressive three-and-a-half weeks" in the national team's January training camp. He will now get his chance in a match of great important for the U.S. on Wednesday, February 6th. The match will begin a 1:00 p.m. and can be seen on beINSPORT.tv.
