The Anteaters begin 2014 hosting La Verne next Thursday (Jan. 2) at 5:00 p.m. at the Bren Center. The game is the first of a double-header with the UCI men hosting Morgan State at 7:30 p.m.
UCI and Washington have met once before with the Huskies winning 87-69 on Dec. 2, 2007 in Seattle.
The Huskies are 6-4 overall and have won four of the last five contests.
UCI senior guard Kelly Meggs is the daughter of Washington's head baseball coach Lindsay Meggs. Kelly's older brother Joe played for his father and younger brother Jack is currently a member of the Huskie baseball team.
Assistant coach Michelle Augustavo ended her collegiate career at Washington where she was a two-time team captain and received PAC-10 All-Academic honorable mention honors. Augustavo is a Seattle native.
UCI beat La Verne 54-33 in 1974-75, the first season of Anteater women's basketball.
The Leopards are currently 7-3 on the year coming off a 87-81 overtime victory over Wartburg on Dec. 21. La Verne has won six of the last seven outings.
The Anteaters enter the final week of non-conference play with a 6-6 record.
UCI's six non-conference wins is the most since 2010 when the club posted an 8-6 record against non-Big West opponents.
The Anteaters have used the same starting five in all but one game this season. Madison McKenney stepped in for Jennifer Tsurumoto when she suffered a concussion and could not start against Montana.
Junior Methlyn Onogomuho has averaged 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals coming off the bench this season.
UCI split a pair of games last week, picking up a home win over New Mexico State, 75-52, and losing to San Diego on the road, 79-55.
UC Irvine' 23-point win over NMSU was the largest margin of victory for the club since a 25-point win over Long Beach State on February 2, 2012.
Senior Camille Buckley posted a career-high 24 points and added 11 rebounds to lead the Anteaters to the win over the Aggies. The double-double was her third in a row and sixth overall this season, which is tied for second in the Big West. The forward leads UCI with a 15.5 scoring and 9.5 rebound average.
Against USD, UCI had a season-low four three-pointers, 22 rebounds and four assists. The Anteaters' 55 points was the second fewest points scored this season.
Guard Jennifer Tsurumoto led UCI against San Diego with 18 points. The senior is second on the team with a 13.1 scoring average.
Looking ahead, UCI will start Big West Conference action traveling to Long Beach State on Jan. 9 for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off in the Walter Pyramid. This is also a double-header with the men taking on the 49ers at 8:00 p.m.
