
UC Irvine Downed By San Diego, 79-55

San Diego, Calif. – The University of San Diego downed UC Irvine 79-55 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion Friday.
The Toreros remain undefeated at 11-0 as the Anteaters even their record to 6-6.
UC Irvine was led by senior guard Jennifer Tsurumoto with 18 points, going 8-12 from the free throw line. Senior Camille Buckley added eight points and two rebounds, while senior forward Lauren Spinazze and junior forward methlyn Onogomuho had seven points each and Jazmyne White recorded six points.
The Toreros out-rebounded the Anteaters, 51-22. UCI hit a season-low four three-pointers.
UCI could not stop USD's Malina Hood who ended the game with 23 points and Amy Kame with 22 points. Kame scored 16 of her points in the second half.
The first half was full of runs as San Diego led 9-8 then scored eight straight to open a 17-8 advantage with 12:46 to go in the half. The Anteaters would score eight of their own to narrow the margin to 17-16 on a Tsurumoto basket and free throw at 10:05. The next nine points were scored by San Diego to stretch the lead to 26-16 at 6:15. USD scored the final four points to take a 35-26 lead in to halftime.
The Toreros out-scored UCI 10-4 out of the intermission to open a 45-30 lead at 18:12 before Amy Kame scored seven in a row and 14 points in a 19-10 spurt to extend the Torero lead to 64-40 at 8:52. USD shot 64.3 percent (18-28) in the second half and would out-score UCI 44-29 in the final 20 minutes to take the game, 79-55.
The Anteaters return to action on Dec. 30 traveling to the University of Washington for a 7:00 p.m. game.
