Three Anteaters Shine as All-West Standouts

IRVINE, Calif. --- UCI men's soccer continues to reap the benefits of an outstanding 15-5-3 season that featured a trip to the Sweet Sixteen by gaining a program-record three athletes on the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-West Region squad.
The 'Eaters matched its highest output of first-teamers as seniors Marco Franco and Enrique Cardenas were honored as such. The tandem of Matt Murphy and David Sias following the 2008 season each scored first team nods as well, however, the 2013 Anteaters added an unprecedented third member to the squad.
Tarek Morad received second team honors lifting the program total to 16 All-West Region recipients and the first three-player class in UCI history. It also marks the fifth season the 'Eaters have been honored with multiple selections.
All three seniors made their first appearance on the All-West region team. UCI joined six other west region programs to get three players including fellow Big West members UCSB and CSUN, however, UC Irvine was the only Big West representative with multiple first team selections joining Pac-12 schools UCLA, Cal, and Washington.
