Bjurman Named Big West Offensive Player of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. --- Sophomore midfielder Mats Bjurman has come alive since Big West play has begun, and kept it rolling in the form of his first Big West award Monday.
The Irvine native scored on a flick over an oncoming keeper in the 51st minute against Cal State Fullerton on Saturday to get the Anteaters off to a roaring start in the second half. He later assisted on the eventual game-winning goal in the 73rd minute of UCI's 2-1 victory helping propel UC Irvine to the top of the Big West South division table.
Bjurman's assist marked his fourth of the season which have all come against Big West foes. His goal was his second on the year stemming from an inventive effort from Cameron Iwasa who had half of his shorts ripped off minutes before.
The award is the first of Bjurman's career and fourth for the Anteaters on the season. Bjurman's is the third of the offensive variety along with one defensive honor. UCI winds down the regular season with a pair of matches this week heading out to UC Riverside Wednesday before returning home for a senior celebration Saturday against the 13th-ranked CSUN Matadors at 7:00 p.m.
