UC Irvine Finishes 5th at Big West Championship

 

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --- The UC Irvine men's cross country team placed fifth in the Big West Conference Championship at Fairbanks Memorial Cross Country Course in San Luis Obispo Saturday.

The Anteaters totaled 127 points as host Cal Poly won the title with 32 points, UC Santa Barbara was second with 49 and UC Davis third with 54.

Cal Poly's Chris Frias was the individual champion with a time of 25:19.5 over the 8,000-meter course.

UCI freshman Isaiah Thompson finished 13th in 26:23.9, Riley Martin was 22nd in 26:40.9 and Alex Tebbe 29th in 27:08.9.

Amir Shirif placed 31st in 27:13.0, Nolan Del Valle 38th (27:31.3), Jake Williams 50th (28:00.1), Tommy Newton-Neal 56th (28:55.7), Blake Wanser 58th (29:25.0) and Conor Stanton 63rd (30:12.7).

The 'Eaters compete in the NCAA West Regional at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento Nov. 15.

This was the last conference meet for UCI head coach Vince O'Boyle, who announced in September his retirement, effective Dec. 31.
