UC Irvine Inks Two

Irvine, Calif. -- UC Irvine head coach Doug Oliver announced the signing of Teirra Hicks and Paulina Santana to National Letters of Intent.
Hicks is a 5-10 guard from Centennial High School in Las Vegas, Nev. She was named to the 2013 Las Vegas Sun Super 7 Team as well as an all-division selection. The two-time scholar-athlete averaged 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds as a junior. She was a member of Centennial's state semifinal team the last two seasons and was part of the squad that was state champions as freshman. In addition to basketball, Hicks volunteered with Special Olympics. Hicks is coached by Karen Weitz who is the second most winningest coach in the State of Nevada with a 90% winning percentage.
"Teirra comes from a nationally recognized high school program and brings a tremendous work ethic and a winner's mentality," Oliver commented. "Her ability to play multiple positions will pose a matchup problem for opponents in the Big West."
Santana was prepped at Bishop Amat Memorial High School where she was an All-CIF Division 1A. The 5-9 guard was named first-team All-Del Rey League selection twice as well as a first team All-San Gabriel Valley choice. Santana was named the Arroyo Tournament MVP as a junior and gained all-tournament nods at the Covina Tournament and West Coast Classic last year. She was a member of the Bishop Amat team that was CIF Division 3A Champions in 2012. She played her freshman year at Mater Dei where her team was CIF Division 1AA, State, and National Champions in 2011. Santana is coached by Richard Wiard, who has been at the helm of the Lancers for over a decade.
"Paulina also comes from an impressive high school program and is a true scorer with range well behind the three-point line," Oliver added. "Her competiveness and ability to score the basketball will be an asset to our program."
"Both of these young ladies bring terrific athletic ability and will have an immediate impact on this program with the loss of our veteran back court," Oliver ended. "I am really excited to coach two women who are dedicated and driven to maximizing their potential."
