
'Eaters Earn No. 12 National Seed, First Round Bye in NCAA Tournament

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's soccer captured its fourth automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Big West Tournament at Anteater Stadium Sunday afternoon, and for the fourth time earned a national seed and first round bye.
UCI (14-4-3, 7-2-1) first made the field in 2008 as a No. 14 national seed. Since then, the 'Eaters have earned a No. 16 seed in 2009 and No. 8 seed in 2011.
The Anteaters are one of three Big West schools to not only make the field, but earn a national seed marking the first occurrence in the conference's history. UCI is seeded 12th along with No. 10 UC Santa Barbara and No. 15 Cal State Northridge.
UCI's opponent will be determined Thursday when North Carolina and South Florida meet in Chapel Hill, N.C. USF comes in after winning the first-ever American Athletic Conference tournament title with an 8-3-9 overall record. The host Tar Heels received an at-large bid with an 8-5-5 record to make it to its 14th tournament in the last 15 years.
The winner would travel to Anteater Stadium for a 2:00 p.m. match on Sunday, Nov. 24. Ticket information can be found HERE.
