Kaycee Holcomb Leads UCI at NCAA West Regional

 

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- Kaycee Holcomb was UC Irvine's first runner across the line at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento Friday.

Holcomb finished 171st with a time of 22:20 over the 6,000-meter course at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.  Emma Bates of Boise State won the race in 19:11.

Hannah Ruby of UCI placed 176th in 22:25, Carlotta Pham was 178th (22:27) and Alice Yang 192nd (22:40).

Marthie Ponty finished 197th in 22:44, Nicole Mendoza was 208th (23:14) and Makenna McGrann 215th in 23:24.

The Anteaters placed 31st with 891 points as Arizona was first with 84, Stanford second with 94 and Oregon third with 120.

The regional was the final event for UCI head coach Vince O'Boyle, who announced in September that he was retiring after this, his 32nd season, effective Dec. 31.
