Big West Championship Central
● The UC Irvine men's cross country team travels to San Luis Obispo for the Big West Conference Championship Saturday.
● The 8,000-meter race begins at 9:45 a.m. on the Fairbanks Memorial Cross Country Course.
● There is no admission charge for the meet. Spectators must park at Cuesta College and cross Highway One to access the course. A parking permit is required and can be purchased for $2 at the self-serve kiosk.
● UCI's entries are Nolan Del Valle, Riley Martin, Tommy Newton-Neal, Amir Shirif, Conor Stanton, Alex Tebbe, Isaiah Thompson, Blake Wanser and Jake Williams.
● Tebbe placed 11th at last year's conference meet, Shirif was 42nd and Martin 56th. The 'Eaters finished third at the 2012 meet for the program's best finish in six years.
● Vince O'Boyle, in his 32nd year as UCI's head coach, has announced his retirement, effective Dec. 31.
