Las Cruces, NM – Sophomore Luciane Lee shot a career-best 69 on the second round of the Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate to help UC Irvine maintain the lead heading into the final round on Wednesday.
Lee carded a career-best 69 Tuesday and moved from 16th to fifth place with a two-round total of 143 (74-69). Lee's three-under par 69 is tied for 12th in the UCI record books for lowest single round.
The Anteaters shot a season-best 287 on the second round and continue to lead the 14-team field with a score of 577 (290-287). The round of 287 was the best team effort since Oct. 24, 2011 when UCI shot 286 in the first round of Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The Anteaters are two shots ahead of Portland State (579) and seven strokes in front of Nevada. Idaho and Cincinnati are tied for fourth (591).
Senior Sara Banke shot an even par 72 and is tied for second with a score of 142 (70-72). Banke is one shy of tournament leader A Ram Choi from Portland State (141). Junior Michelle Yang shot her second round of 73 and is tied for 11th at 146 (73-73), while senior Ronnie Valerio is tied for 29th at 150 (73-77). Freshman Kaley In had a career-best 73 on the second round and is tied for 47th with a score of 154 (81-73).
The tournament will conclude with 18 holes tomorrow.
