HEADERS
- The Anteaters have allowed 55 shots on goal, lowest in the Big West and nine fewer than the next school (64 - UC Santa Barbara).
- UCI has trailed twice at halftime this season with a 1-0-1 record in those matches.
- The 'Eaters are unbeaten (8-0-2) when scoring a goal in the second half.
- Michael Breslin leads all Big West keepers with seven overall shutouts. He stands at second amongst Big West keepers in minutes played (1,518), goals-against-average (0.89), and conference saves (27).
- Breslin has three separate shutout streaks of over 200 minutes this season. He has previous streaks of 224 and 212 minutes and has currently gone 205 minute since allowing his last goal.
FREE KICKS
- The Anteaters were 1-6 vs. ranked opponents in 2012. UCI is currently 3-0 against ranked schools in 2013 and have a four-match winning streak against ranked foes: 1-0 at No. 5 Cal State Northridge, 3-1 over No. 11 UCLA, 1-0 over No. 16 Louisville, and 1-0 win over No. 21 CSUN to end the 2012 season.
- This season marks the sixth time in the last seven years UCI as collected five or more non-conference wins.
- The 'Eaters' RPI jumped from 66th to 44th in the nation last week. They are 5-2 against schools in the top-75 and no losses to schools with an RPI over 100.
- UCI is 10-12-1 in regular season conference matches at Anteater Stadium since 2009.
CORNERS
- The Anteaters have been named Big West Player of the Week three times this season. Marco Franco and Mitchell Alvarez earned the title for their efforts last week in wins over UCR and No. 5 CSUN joining Enrique Cardenas who was named the week of Sept. 23.
- The 'Eaters bring back 10 starters from the 2012 squad including preseason award-winners Cameron Iwasa and Marco Franco.
- UCI has five players over the 1,500-minute mark; seniors Marco Franco and Tarek Morad along with keeper Michael Breslin who is the lone 'Eater to play all 1,518.
- Enrique Cardenas converted two penalty kicks vs. No. 11 UCLA. UCI has converted seven of its last eight PK tries dating back to 2009 including three this season.
IN THE BOOKS
- Michael Breslin recorded his 10th career shutout last week becoming the sixth Anteater with 10 or more.
- Enrique Cardenas has two three-match point streaks in 2013. He accounts for the three of the last four streaks of this length dating back to 2011.
- UCI's win over No. 11 UCLA was the 250th in the history of the program.
- No. 11 UCLA was the 12th top-20 opponent UCI has defeated in program history.
- Cameron Iwasa scored his fifth career game-winning goal tying him for 10th in program history with four other Anteaters.
- Cameron Iwasa's game-winning goal in the seventh minute Friday night against Cal Poly was the 1,000th UC Irvine goal in the history of Anteater Stadium. Together, Anteater soccer has scored 1,827 total goals, 945 from the men's program.
FULLERTON FOOTNOTES
- Cal State Fullerton has faltered entering Big West South play going 0-2-1 in three matches, 3-3-1 overall in the Big West.
- UCI and CSUF played to a 2-2 draw earlier this month. CSUF led 1-0 before UCI tied it in the 85th minute. CSUF regained the lead nine second later only to have the 'Eaters retie the match 45 seconds after that.
- All-time, UCI is 21-19-7 against CSUF with 12 wins at home including its last two.
- Amara Soumah, Ian Ramos, and Garrett Losee share the team lead with three goals each. Two of Losee's have been game-winners.
- Colin Okirie and Spencer Johnson share the assist lead with four each. Okirie had two against the 'Eaters assisting on goals by Losee and Marc Fenelus.
- Bryan Escalante has started 12 of the Titans' matches winning four and recording three shutouts.
- Escalante stopped seven of his 56 shots against UCI while 'Eater keeper Michael Breslin stopped a season-high eight shots in the draw.
- CSUF ranks near the middle of the Big West in most every category. It is near the bottom in goals allowed and goals-against-average and is also tied with the 'Eaters in least amount of yellow cards issued.
- CSUF averages 12.27 shots per match, seventh in the conference, yet had a season-high 22 shots vs. UCI.
SOCCER AT THE NEXT LEVEL
- Brad Evans has earned a spot on the U.S. National squad this year. He has made 11 total appearances including three World Cup qualifiers in 2013. He scored his first international goal in a WCQ against Jamaica, a game-winner in stoppage time.
- Evans is also a member of the Seattle Sounders FC. He has played in 22 matches this season scoring four goals and assisting on six. Evans ranks in the top five in all major Sounders career categories.
- Amani Walker and Andrew Fontein are teammates on the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the North American Soccer League. Walker has two goals, one game-winner, and two assists in nine matches. Fontein has 14 saves in three starts.
- Fontein was a part of the 2012 NASL Championship squad that defeated Walker and Miguel Ibarra.
- Ibarra is a member of the Minnesota United FC. In 18 matches, Ibarra has one goal, two assists, and played over 1,400 minutes.
