
UC Irvine Picked Eighth In Preseason Media Poll

IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's basketball team has been picked eighth in the Big West Conference preseason poll as selected by media members.
The Anteaters, who finished tied for eighth in the league standings last season, received 54 points. Big West Tournament champion Cal Poly was selected to take home the 2013-14 Big West women's basketball title, earning 17 first place votes and 177 points overall. Hawai'i was second, finishing with 159 points and the three remaining first place votes. Third and fourth place were separated by just one point as Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State collected 121 and 120 points, respectively. Rounding out the poll was UC Santa Barbara in fifth place with 100 points, UC Davis in sixth at 72 points, Cal State Fullerton in seventh with 59 points and UC Riverside following UCI in ninth with 38 points.
UC Irvine will be led by senior forward Camille Buckley and senior guards Kelly Meggs and Jennifer Tsurumoto. Buckley, who was a second team All-Big West honoree a year ago, was the only Big West player to average a double-double (11.9 ppg, 11.5 rpg) in league games. Tsurumoto was second on the team in scoring with a 10.1 mark and led the team and was ranked ninth among Big West players in assists at 2.9 per game. Meggs ranked seventh among Big West players with a .327 three-point field goal percentage last season and was eighth in minutes played (32.7 mpg).
Senior forward Jazmyne White, who was the 2010 Big West Freshman of the Year, also returns after seeing limited time the last two seasons due to injury.
The Anteaters will face Concordia in an exhibition Nov. 7 at 7:00 p.m. before opening the season against South Dakota on Nov. 10 at 2:00 p.m. Both games will be played at the Bren Events Center.
