IRVINE, Calif. --- Ninth-ranked UC Irvine played top-ranked UCLA tight in the first half, but the Bruins pulled away in the second half to post a 12-3 win at the UCI Invitational Saturday afternoon at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
The 'Eaters (11-4) trailed 2-1 after one quarter and 4-2 at halftime as Jacob Mourer scored both of his goals in the opening half for UCI.
UCLA scored the first seven goals of the second half to take an 11-2 lead late in the fourth quarter before UCI's Jared Osborn converted a penalty shot with 1:23 remaining.
The 'Eaters play Cal in a fifth-place bracket game Sunday morning at 8:00 at UCI.
