September 04, 2012 | Men's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif. --- No. 12 UC Irvine was rewarded for its successful weekend with a Big West Offensive Player of the Week Award for newcomer Gor Kirakosyan.
Kirakosyan, a junior transfer from Pasadena City College, has burst onto the scene with three goals in his first two matches as an Anteater.
This past weekend, he scored UCI's two goals in a 2-0 win over LIU Brooklyn before having to sit out nearly the entire second half and the entirety of the Sunday match against Detroit with a leg injury.
Kirakosyan becomes UCI's first POTW Award winner of 2012. For UCI, it's the 40th Big West POTW Award earned. The 'Eaters earned the honor six times in 2011.
Kirakosyan looks to get back on the pitch this weekend as UCI takes on a pair of Pac-12 opponents. The Anteaters host Stanford Fri. Sept. 7th at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to No. 7 UCLA Sun. Sept. 9th for a match that will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
