'Eaters Fall to No. 1 USC, 10-5, at SoCal Tournament

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- Fifth-ranked UC Irvine played No. 1 USC even in the first quarter, but the Trojans scored five unanswered goals in the middle two frames to claim a 10-5 win in a semifinal game of the SoCal Tournament at Dos Pueblos High School Sunday.
UCI, 12-2 on the season, will face UCLA in the third-place game at 4:20 p.m. at Dos Pueblos High.
Jacob Mourer gave the 'Eaters a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the game before USC's Nikola Vavic scored at the 4:15 mark to draw the Trojans even.
Blake Terry put UCI back up 15 seconds later, but USC's Kostas Genidounias answered with 2:42 remaining.
The 'Eaters went ahead again on a goal by Pablo Carballo with 41 seconds left in the quarter before Vavic scored with 21 seconds remaining to tie the game at 3-3.
Vavic's third goal of the game with 4:17 left in the second period gave USC the lead for good at 4-3 as the Trojans went on to lead 8-3 after three quarters.
Mitch Wise and Kyle Kittlitz scored goals for the 'Eaters in the fourth quarter.
