10 Goals Make a Solid Saturday for Mitch Wise, UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. --- Junior All-American Mitch Wise scored five goals for the second straight game as sixth-ranked UC Irvine defeated Redlands, 18-7, in the UCI Invitational at the Anteater Aquatics Complex Saturday afternoon.

Senior Nick Pfeil scored four goals, sophomore Alan Robertson three and redshirt freshman Chris Swieca two as the 'Eaters opened the 2012 season 2-0.

After Redlands took an early 2-1 lead, Pfeil notched back-to-back goals, the second one with 2:58 remaining in the first quarter, to give UCI the lead for good at 3-2.

Robertson scored two of his goals in the second quarter as the 'Eaters took a 10-6 lead at halftime. 

Wise, Mourer and Pfeil tallied goals in the third quarter to put UCI up 13-6 heading and Wise scored the first two goals in the fourth as the 'Eaters went on to the victory.

Junior Alex Kazmier recorded eight saves in the first three quarters before sophomore Dylan Peterson took over in the final period and had four stops.

UCI hosts No. 13 UC Davis Friday night in a non-conference game at 7:00 at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
