IRVINE, Calif. --- Junior All-American Mitch Wise scored five goals to lead sixth-ranked UC Irvine over Chapman, 16-8, in the opening game of the UCI Invitational at the Anteater Aquatics Complex Saturday.

Sophomore Jacob Mourer added four goals and junior Bojan Hrlec tallied three in the victory.

Wise scored three times in the first quarter and twice more in the second as the 'Eaters built a 7-3 halftime lead.

Mourer scored a hat trick in the third quarter as UCI outscored the Panthers, 5-1, to take a commanding 12-4 lead entering the final period.

Hrlec, a transfer from West Valley College, scored his third goal of the game with 6:52 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the 'Eaters their largest lead of the morning at 14-4.

Nick Pfeil, Alan Robertson, Bo de Lange and Chris Swieca also notched goals for UCI.

Junior Alex Kazmier started in goal and had eight saves in the first half.  Sophomore Dylan Peterson recorded six stops in the second half.

Brett Carter led Chapman with a pair of goals.

UCI faces Redlands at 1:45 this afternoon.
