Frantic Finish Gives Way to Medal Round

LONDON, England --- The rivalry between USA and Australia was at the forefront on Tuesday as semifinal action flowed over into overtime for Team USA's 11-9 victory at the Water Polo Arena.

The match was back and forth throughout with the Aussies tying the match up in the fourth quarter. With 30 seconds left, Australia held the ball down 9-8. A quick shot was deflected out of bounds with one second left by keeper Betsey Armstrong. Coach Adam Krikorian called a timeout thinking the Americans had possession, however, Australia had retained possession which incurred a penalty shot for the Aussies which they would convert to tie the match up sending it to overtime.

In the extra period, Coach Klatt and the Americans shut down Australia while scoring twice to break through in the Gold Medal match on Thursday. USA's opponent will either be Hungary or Spain, both teams that the U.S. faced in pool play, with the time to be determined.
