Resurgent USA Water Polo Settles for Tie

LONDON, England --- Team USA was shut down in the first half before putting up a strong second half run against the Spaniards. The squads ended in a 9-9 draw Wednesday at the Water Polo Arena in pool play of the London 2012 Olympics.

The U.S. trailed the entire first half and went into the half down 5-3. The Americans turned the tables in the third period with four goals to take 7-6 lead. They built a 9-6 lead before Spain crept back into the match and tied it with 45 seconds left.

Team USA held the ball for the final 45 seconds, but were unable to break through while on the power play to settle for the tie.

The U.S. and Spain are now tied atop Group A. They remain one point ahead of Hungary, the victim in Team USA's first match, and three points ahead of winless China who the Americans will face on Friday at 11:40 a.m.

The Friday match will be streaming live on nbcolympics.com and will not be seen on any of the NBC TV networks.
