IRVINE, Calif. --- From the small country of Jordan comes a big-time striker in Omar Dweik (Amman, Jordan / Amman Baccalaureate School) who will bring his talents to UCI.
Dweik has a very international flavor coming from the country of Jordan and club team Al Jazeera as a midfielder. He has represented his country Jordan as a National Team player played in over 100 matches against such countries as Iraq, Egypt, Kuwait, Malaysia, Bahrain, Tunisia, and Japan.
His play caught fire early on in 2005-06 where he led the Ministry of Education School's football tournament to its first championship in the school's sports history. In that tournament, his team scored 32 goals: he scored 15 and assisted on 16 more.
The following year, Dweik traveled to England to train in the FA Youth Development earning a Five-Star Rank certificate. He was then chosen to represent Jordan along with the best under-16 players after scoring 42 goals in 12 matches in his local league.
Dweik began play with club Al Jazeera in 2008 while also getting the call to play for the under-14s National Team. The following year, he became captain of the Jordanian under-16 National Team playing in such tournaments as the West Asian Football Association's Cup and becoming the first Jordanian National Team to qualify to the Asian under-16s Cup before receiving the MVP of the under-18 Schools Football Tournament and winning the King's Academy Tournament in 2010.
"Omar comes to us with a rich soccer pedigree. He is a National Team player for his country Jordan and has the ability to change games with his distribution sense for movement off the ball and his goal scoring ability. He will be a very good asset to our program," Head Coach George Kuntz added.
Dweik will join an Anteater squad coming off its third NCAA tournament appearance as a National Seed stemming from a Big West regular season title and its third Big West tournament championship in the last four years.
