Awards Continue To Roll In For Thurman

IRVINE, Calif. --- Three additional baseball media outlets recognized Andrew Thurman (Orange/Orange Lutheran HS) following his no-hit performance against Long Beach State last Friday.

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association named Thurman a Co-National Pitcher of the Week with the right-hander sharing the honor with Penn State's Steven Hill, who also tossed a nine-inning no-hitter.  Thurman was also honored by College Baseball 360 as the CB360 Primetime Pitcher of the Week and College Sports Madness selected the sophomore as the Madness Baseball Big West Player of the Week.

After holding then-No. 12 Cal State Fullerton hitless through eight innings before yielding a single in the top of the ninth two weeks ago, Thurman returned to the mound six days later and delivered UCI's fifth no-hitter against Long Beach State. The right-hander hit the first batter he faced and went on to retire the next 23 batters before giving up a walk with two outs in the eighth. He set down the final four batters to post his first career complete game. It was also the second consecutive year that a UCI pitcher no-hit the Dirtbags in the opening game of the series.

Thurman is 4-2 with a 3.26 ERA. He has struck out 43 in 58 innings and has allowed just one hit in the last 17 innings.
