CLAREMONT, Calif. --- Senior Brett Matejka had the top finish for UC Irvine on the first day of the Cal/Nevada Championships at Claremont Saturday.

Matejka was runner-up in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:09.0 to pick up eight team points for the 'Eaters.

Senior Ryan McMonigle placed seventh in 31:42.0.

Senior Brennen Halliday finished sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with at time of 9:29.57.

Freshman Alex Campbell placed seventh in the high jump at 6-4 ¾ and sophomore Mike Kennedy was eighth in the long jump with a mark of 22-5.

Senior Charles Jock had the top qualifying time in the 400 meters at 47.46 entering Sunday's final. 

Senior Trevor Wightman qualified for Sunday's final in the 400-meter hurdles with the fourth-fastest time of 53.10 in the prelims.
