RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- UCI ran away from the No. 13 Hartwick Hawks (0-1) with a 20-5 victory to open the CBU Lancer Invite on the campus of Cal Baptist.

UCI (4-1) struck early and often as Jessy Cardey (Riverside / Poly HS) scored twice in the opening frame and twice more in the second period pacing UC Irvine to a 7-3 lead by the half.

The rest of the squad got into it with a seven-goal third period as Annika Bergesen (West Jordan, Utah / Golden West College) and Layne Kipp (Frenso / Edison HS) each added a pair.

Hannah Croghan (Yorba Linda / Rosary HS) scored twice in the final quarter to finish up a four-goal performance and Cardey, who scored in each period, ended up with six on the day totaling 20 for the Anteaters.

For UCI, it was its highest scoring total of the year. In 2011, the team scored 20+ goals twice against Concordia, Irvine and Vanguard.

Cardey joins the exclusive six-goal club Caitlin Haskell, Julia Fancher, and Erica Horman, who holds the 'Eater record with a seven-goal game.

UCI will return to action at 4:45 p.m. as they take on the host institution in Cal Baptist.
