QUICK HITS

UCI will host Concordia Tuesday (Nov. 6) in the final exhibition game at 7:00 p.m. in the Bren Center.

Concordia is located just 3.4 miles from the UCI campus. The Anteaters have defeated the Eagles the last two seasons, taking a 84-71 decision in 2010-11 and 91-57 victory last season.

In the last meeting with Concordia, Jasmine Bernard lead the Anteaters with 19 points and nine rebounds. Methlyn Onogomuho totaled 14 points on 6-9 shooting from the field, while Anete Klintsone had 12 points and five assists and Kelly Meggs added 10 points, two assists and two steals.

Concordia opened up the year with a loss at Menlo, 98-79 on Sunday. The Eagles are picked sixth in the Golden State Athletic Conference after finishing with a 7-18 overall record in 2011-12.

Following Tuesday's exhibition versus Concordia, UCI will open the regular season traveling to Santa Clara Friday (Nov. 9) for a  7:00 p.m. game at the Leavey Center.

It is the third consecutive year the Anteaters have started the season on the road. UCI will play five of the first seven games away from the Bren Center. Eight of UCI's 12 non-conference tilts will take place on the road.

UCI is 11-27 in season opening contests, losing the last 10. UCI's last opening season win dates back to Nov. 25, 2002 with a 72-56 victory over Centenary at the Bren Center. The Anteaters last opening day win on the road was Nov. 17, 2001 when the Anteaters won at San Francisco, 59-48.

Santa Clara leads the series record with UCI 8-5 all-time, but the Anteaters beat the Broncos 88-82, a year ago at the Bren Center. UCI scored 12 of the last 14 points, including the final 10 points of the game to come from behind and capture the victory.  UCI had four players in double-figure scoring, while Santa Clara was led by Ruta Zurauskyte who was 12-17 from the floor and 9-9 from the free throw line for a game and career-high 33 points.

Santa Clara was picked sixth in the West Coast Conference pre-season poll. Senior guard Meagan Fulps was selected to the Preseason All-West Coast Conference team. The Broncos were 12-18 overall last season and ranked 10th nationally in three-pointers made per game (7.6).

UCI defeated Cal State San Marcos, 66-32 in the first exhibition game of the year. Jasmine Bernard posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Camille Buckley had 12 points and seven boards. Vanessa Aguilar recorded 11 points and Mokun Fajemisin swatted five blocked shots. All 12 players saw minutes in double-figures with 11 of 12 players scoring at least one point and grabbing at least one rebound.

UCI will face nine teams that went to post-season play last year, including future member San Diego State next Wednesday (Nov.14) who is receiving votes in the latest USA TODAY Sports/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
