November 03, 2012 | Men's Soccer
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's soccer got a victory in the season finale on the road over the 20th-ranked Big West South division champion Matadors of Cal State Northridge Saturday night.
UCI started off looking good with a strong first half outshooting the Matadors, 7-2, and not allowing a shot on goal. Marco Franco fired a difficult shot as the half would down, but keeper Michael Abalos made the save.
The 'Eaters continued to bludgeon the net with more shots to open the second half until they broke the scoreless tie in the 67th minute. Christopher Santana headed a Marco Franco cross in from the back post to give UCI the 1-0 lead and the eventual game-winner.
Michael Breslin, who didn't get any action until the second half, finished with a pair of saves.
For the Anteaters, the season concludes with a 5-14-1 record, 2-8-0 in the Big West.
