UC Irvine Travels To Seattle U For Lone Game Of The Week

In the lone game of the week, UCI will travel to Seattle University Saturday (Dec. 1) for a 4:00 p.m. tip from the Connolly Center.

Seattle U enters the game 2-3 overall.

The Anteaters lead the Redhawks in the series records, 2-1.

The Redhawks won the last meeting, 86-58 in Irvine. Seattle U shot 55 percent (33-60) from the floor, dished 25 assists and led the Anteaters on the boards, 41-32. UCI hit seven three-pointers, while Seattle U had six. Methlyn Onogomuho led the Anteaters with 14 points and seven rebounds. Four players scored in double figures for Seattle University led by Ashley Ward with 20 points.

The last time UCI won a non-conference road game was at Seattle on Dec. 13, 2010 when the Anteaters beat the Redhawks, 69-55.

Last weekend, Seattle U won its own Washington Dental Service Thanksgiving Tournament beating Sacred Heart, 74-70, in the title game and Portland, 63-61.

Sylvia Shephard was named the tournament MVP and Kacie Sowell was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Seattle head coach Joan Bonvicini formerly coached in the Big West Conference at Long Beach State from 1979-91.

Junior guard Kelly Meggs hails from Seattle and graduated from Bellevue High School. Her father Lindsay is the head baseball coach at Washington.

UCI went 1-1 last week at the Aggie Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Classic, downing Drake (69-64) and falling to host New Mexico State (50-44). The Anteaters started the week with a 62-52 loss to Denver at home.

Junior guard Jennifer Tsurumoto and sophomore forward Methlyn Onogomuho were named to the all-tournament team.

Tsurumoto led the team in both tournament games, including a career-high 23 against Drake. She grabbed a career-best six rebounds to go with 14 points against NMSU. For the tournament, Tsurumoto averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals, while shooting .609 (14-23) from the field.

Senior Jazmyne White returned to the team last week after suffering a knee injury last year. She started all three games and played 25 total minutes. White recorded two points and four rebounds during her time on the court.

 The Anteaters rank  second in fewest turnovers (16.5) and personal fouls (15.5) among Big West teams.

Tsurumoto ranks 11th in the Big West in scoring (11.8), eighth in three-pointers made (1.50), ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.391) and 10th in assists (2.83)

 Junior forward Camille Buckley ranks 12th in rebounding (6.2) and free throw percentage (.720). She is also third in offensive rebounds (3.17).

 This is the third consecutive game on the road and fifth of the first seven contests. Eight of UCI's 12 non-conference tilts will take place away from the Bren Center.
