UC IRVINE FACES PACIFICA FOR FIRST TIME
● UC Irvine, 1-1 on the season, hosts Pacifica University for the first time Thursday night.
'EATERS EDGED IN OT BY UCLA
● UCI is coming off an 80-79, overtime loss at 13th-ranked UCLA Tuesday night.
● UC Irvine and 13th-ranked UCLA battled for 40 minutes of regulation and when that didn't prove enough, the two teams played five minutes of overtime with the Bruins pulling out an 80-79 win at Pauley Pavilion.
● A driving basket by UCLA's Larry Drew II with 16.9 seconds left in overtime proved to be the game-winner after UCI senior Michael Wilder's three from beyond the key with 27.9 seconds remaining had given the 'Eaters a 79-78 lead.
● In regulation, freshman Alex Young's trey from the right corner put UCI up 67-65 with 54.8 seconds left, but Bruin freshman Jordan Adams hit a pair of free throws with 7.9 ticks remaining to pull UCLA even at 67-all.
● UCI sophomore post Will Davis II was fouled on a drive with 2.6 seconds left in regulation, but he could not convert either free throw to send the game into overtime.
● Adams, who hit 16 of 16 free throws in the game, hit his last two foul shots with 1:56 remaining in overtime to give UCLA a 76-73 lead, but Anteater senior Daman Starring nailed a three with 1:19 left to tie the game at 76-76.
● The Bruins' Kyle Anderson scored on a tip-in with 44 seconds remaining before Wilder's three-pointer gave UCI the lead to set up Drew's winning drive.
● UCLA (2-0) led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but UCI closed out with a 19-9 run in the final 5:34 of the half to pull within 36-34 at halftime.
● The game featured 18 lead changes and 11 ties as the teams met for the third time in as many years.
● UCI (1-1) was looking to knock off a ranked team for the first time in seven years since defeating No. 13 Stanford, 79-63, on the road Nov. 19, 2005.
● Wilder led UCI with 23 points, one shy of his career high, and hit 6 of 9 threes. Davis had 12 points and seven rebounds, Derick Flowers 10 points and a career-high seven boards, and Starring had nine points, six assists and a career-high 10 rebounds. Senior Adam Folker pulled down nine boards while Young scored seven points and had two steals.
