UC Irvine Falls 12-10 in MPSF Game at Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- UC Irvine's fourth-quarter surge fell a bit short as the 'Eaters were defeated by Long Beach State, 12-10, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game at the 49ers' Campus Pool Sunday afternoon.
Junior Bojan Hrlec led UCI (14-11, 0-7 MPSF) with three goals while Mitch Wise and Jacob Mourer added two apiece in the "Black & Blue" rivalry contest.
Nolan McConnell led Long Beach State (21-7, 3-4) with four goals, all in the first quarter, when the 49ers built a 5-1 lead.
LBSU led 7-4 at halftime and 10-6 after three periods. Dimitrios Lappas scored with 7:32 left in the game to give the 49ers an 11-6 lead before an extra-man goal by Wise (7:10) and another score from Mourer (5:54) pulled the 'Eaters within 11-8.
Nick Rascon put the 49ers up by four on a goal at the 5:08 mark, but Hrlec converted a penalty shot at 2:15 and Wise closed out the scoring on a score with 1:12 remaining.
UCI closes out the regular season next Sunday with an MPSF game at UCLA that has a 10:30 a.m. start time for coverage on the Pac-12 Networks.
