Box Score IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine was unable to handle the Tigers and was held to a .052 hitting percentage in a 25-18, 25-15, 25-18 loss Friday at Crawford Court.
The Anteaters (8-10, 3-2 Big West) were led by Aly Squires, who put away a match-leading 13 kills. Kristin Winkler led all players with 21 digs but Pacific (15-2, 3-1), which owns the best team dig average in the conference, recorded a 65-47 advantage in scoops. Ella Rosenfeld put away six of 11 attempts for a .545 clip from the middle and led the Anteaters with three block assists.
In set No. 1, Pacific setter Gillian Howard found Kat Schulz and Gabby Cowden twice each in a five-point run that allowed the Tigers to turn an 8-7 deficit into a 12-8 lead. UCI was unable to counter, and Pacific's lead extended to seven points at 21-14 following the block by Schulz and Jennifer Sanders. Sanders put the ball away to give Pacific match point and an attempt by Squires went long to close out the frame.
The Tigers again, mounted a five-point run, this time in the second set, to burst ahead from a 9-9 deadlock and take a 14-9 advantage. The lead grew to nine at 22-13 and the Anteaters would find themselves down two sets following a kill by Megan Birch.
The Anteaters never found their rhythm and trailed, 14-9, in the final set following a 5-1 run by the Tigers. Pacific continued to put together rallies, reeling off four consecutive points to lead 19-12 on an unforced error by UCI and went on to complete the sweep.
UCI hosts UC Davis Saturday at Crawford Court with first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
