October 27, 2012 | Men's Soccer
FULLERTON, Calif. --- The Anteaters controlled the match at Titan Stadium on a chilly Saturday night, but the Titans found a way in the 83rd minute to earn the 1-0 win.
CSUF's Gerzon Blanco was in the right place at the right time as Ian Ramos rushed the net and oncoming keeper Michael Breslin. The ball slipped over to Blanco who finished into an open net halfway through the 83rd minute.
UCI (4-13-1, 1-7-0) had a handle on the match especially the second half outshooting CSUF (7-10-1, 3-4-1) 9-5 and 15-10 over the entirety of the match. The even earned six more corner kicks than the Titans while the Titans double UCI's foul count.
UCI had its best chances midway through the second half. Enrique Cardenas flew across the box and very nearly got a touch on a laser cross by Christopher Santana, but instead it zipped right into Bryan Escalante's hands.
Austin Burke also had a great opportunity after receiving a rebound inside the box, but his attempt rolled just wide.
Michael Breslin had a great game in net stopped five shots including a quick reaction off a deflection.
For the Anteaters, their season is essentially over now seven points behind CSUF for the final spot in the tournament with just two matches left. UCI will finish up its home slate on Wednesday, October 31st as it celebrate its lone senior, Everett Pitts, in a 7:00 p.m. match against UC Riverside.
