FREE KICKS

  • UCI and Cal Poly are currently tied atop the Big West with matching 2-0 records.
  • UCI had its streak of three matches with a three-point scorer snapped on Sunday. Natalia Ledezma (at SDSU), Jordan Utvich (vs. Princeton), and Dana Sanderlin (at CSUF) each had a goal and an assist in their match.
  • UCI's overtime victory on Sunday was its first since 2010. UCI got a 108th minute winner from CoCo Goodson Oct. 1, 2010 against Pacific and a 102nd minute winner from Mar Rodriguez Oct. 15, 2010 against CSUN.
  • Since 2009, UCI is 4-6-7 in overtime matches.
  • Cal Poly had not shut out an opponent until last weekend when it shut both of its opponents out.
  • UCSB (12), Cal Poly (11.7), and UCI (11.7) are among the bottom of Big West schools in shots per match.

FAR POST

  • UCI finished up its nine-game road trip: 39 days, 4,454 miles, and four states before it finally gets to return to Anteater Stadium this weekend. UCI went 5-4-0.
  • There are currently six ranked schools on UCI's ledger: No. 6 Texas A&M, No. 9 BYU, No. 12 San Diego State, No. 20 Pepperdine, No. 21 Long Beach State, and No. 23 Oregon State.
  • UCI will face five MAC Hermann Watch List players in 2012: Chelsea Buckland (Oregon State), Nadia Link (LBSU), Lindsi Cutshall (BYU), Kelley Monogue (Texas A&M), and Michelle Pao (Pepperdine).

THROW-INS

  • Natalia Ledezma, Dana Sanderlin, and Mady Solow were named to the DU Invitational All-Tournament Team.
  • UC Irvine led the Big West Conference in average home attendance in 2011 at 694. UCI is averaging 515 in four home matches in 2012.
  • UCI finished second in the Big West in 2011 in goals-per-game (1.86) and goals-against-average (0.92)
  • UCI was the only Big West school in 2011 to have two players, Natalia Ledezma and Lexi Kopf, record 10+ goals.
  • UC Irvine was held scoreless twice in 2011, the lowest total of any Big West school.

STOPPAGE TIME

  • MINUTES WATCH - Haley O'Brien continues to lead the squad with 1,169 minutes played and is joined by Zoya Farzaneh (1,142) and Mady Solow (1,102) in the 1,000-minute club.
  • SAND STORM - Senior Dana Sanderlin is climbing the UCI record book. Most notably, her 78 appearances are six away from the program record of 83 set by four players.
  • FOUL MOOD - Before last weekend, UCI had not committed more than 10 fouls in a match. In its last two matches, UCI has committed 11 fouls against CSUF and 12 against UCR.

ATTACKING IN NUMBERS

  • UCI has defeated five ranked opponents in the last three seasons. In 2012, UCI has taken down No. 21 Oregon State and No. 21 Auburn. In addition, they've marked wins over No. 11 Texas A&M and No. 25 Portland in 2011, and No. 17 San Diego in 2010.
  • Natalia Ledezma and Lexi Kopf each earned a hat trick in consecutive weeks in 2011. The program had just two hat tricks prior in its existence.

PRESEASON

  • The Anteaters were picked to finish second in the Big West behind Long Beach State. LBSU earned eight of nine first-place votes with UCI earning the ninth.
  • Junior forward Natalia Ledezma and sophomore midfielder Cami Privett were voted to the Big West Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • Natalia Ledezma was ranked 84th among the Top 100 college players to watch according to @TopDrawerSoccer.

SOCCER AT THE NEXT LEVEL

  • UCI alums Danielle de Seriere and CoCo Goodson both play for FC Twente, a soccer club stationed in the Netherlands.
  • FC Twente is currently in first place in the BeNe League Orange at 4-0-1. Goodson has started all five matches at center back, and scored her first goal, a game-winner in the 79th minute, in a 2-1 win over Ajax earlier last month.
  • Rachel Flemming, a 2008 alum, started her first season as a defender for LA Strikers FC.
  • Anteater alums Judy Christopher and Sarah Devine are together on the San Diego SeaLions of the WPSL who went 5-1-0 before falling in the regional final.
MUST(ANG) WIN
  • Head Coach Alex Crozier is in his 21st season with Cal Poly and has been the program's only head coach.
  • Crozier has been named Big West Coach of the Year four times and his next win will be his 250th all-time.
  • Cal Poly was 9-9-1 in 2011 and finished sixth in the Big West at 3-5-0.
  • Cal Poly stand at 5-5-1 having won its last two matches to snap a five-match losing streak.
  • UCI and CP have faced three common opponents in LMU, Oregon State, and BYU. Neither team defeated BYU while CP won at LMU and UCI won at Oregon State.
  • Elise Krieghoff recently earned Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors with three goals last week. She leads the Mustangs with six goals and 12 points.
  • Cristina Farrington ranks second with three goals and six points while Cici Kobinski's four assists are tops on the squad.
  • Alyssa Giannetti has played all by 16 minutes this season stopping 71 shots.
  • The Mustangs have five game-winning goals from five different players.

GAUCHO MARKS

  • Head Coach Paul Stumpf is entering his 14th season as the Gauchos' head coach.
  • The Gauchos are coming off a 7-11-2 season where they finished seventh in the Big West with a 2-6-0 record.
  • UCSB is 3-7-2 in 2012, 0-1-1 in Big West play. It is winless in its last four matches. It also started the season with five winless matches.
  • UCR is 5-4-2 in 2012 after finishing 2011 at 8-9-2.
  • Sara Feder leads the team with three goals and six points
  • Madison Beckley (2 G, 1 A) and Indiana Mead (1 G, 2 A) are the only players to record a goal and an assist on the team.
  • Makenna Henry has played all but seven minutes this season stopping 63 shots.
  • The last time the Gauchos scored at UCI was in 2007; the last time they won was 2005.
  • UCSB has losses to Oregon State, Pepperdine, and San Diego State; all common opponents with UC Irvine.
