MPSF OPENER SATURDAY
● Coach Marc Hunt's UC Irvine squad (14-3, 0-0), which remained at No. 4 in this week's Collegiate Water Polo Association national poll, opens Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action Saturday at eighth-ranked Pepperdine in an 11:00 a.m. game at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu.
● This will be the first meeting of the season between the 'Eaters and Waves.
● Saturday's game will be the 15th consecutive contest away from home for the 'Eaters this season.
QUICK HITS
● UCI's MPSF game at UCLA Nov. 18 has a new start time of 10:30 a.m. and will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
● UCI collected a couple of wins in the Gary Troyer Tournament last Saturday, defeating Whittier College, 18-4, and Cal Lutheran, 14-6.
● Junior Bojan Hrlec leads UCI with 48 goals (second-most in MSPF) and he ranks third in the MPSF with an average of 2.82 goals per game. Hrlec had four goals in last Saturday's victory over Whittier.
● Junior Mitch Wise, who has scored 42 goals on the season, ranks seventh in the MPSF at 2.47 goals per game. He had three goals in each win last Saturday.
● Senior Nick Pfeil has scored 26 goals this season with a high of four in the Sept. 1 win over Redlands.
● Sophomore Jacob Mourer has 23 goals, with a high of four in the season-opening victory over Chapman Sept. 1.
● Senior Winston Newland has scored 18 goals this year, including hat tricks in wins over Pacific and Occidental.
● Sophomore Alan Robertson also has a pair of hat tricks this season and has scored 18 goals.
● Redshirt freshman Chris Swieca has scored 18 goals this season with a high of three in last Saturday's win over Cal Lutheran at the Gary Troyer Tournament.
● Junior goalie Alex Kazmier has 117 saves this season with a high of 17 in the Sept. 16 overtime win over UC Santa Barbara in the fifth-place game of the NorCal Tournament. He ranks fourth in the MPSF with an average of 10.29 saves per game.
● Redshirt sophomore goalie Dylan Peterson has recorded 47 saves this season.
● Sophomore Michael Bailey has 15 saves in five appearances this season.
ON THE HORIZON
● UCI hosts its annual Alumni Game Saturday, Oct. 20, with a noon start at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
● The 'Eaters host UC Santa Barbara in an MPSF game Sunday, Oct. 21, at noon.
