Pullman, Wash. -- The UC Irvine women's golf team opened the 2011-12 schedule with a sixth place finish at the Washington State Cougar Cup at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course.
The Anteaters finished sixth with a three-round total of 939 (323-304-312). The University of Washington captured the tournament title with a Cougar Cup record of 890 (309-285, 296). Stanford's Sally Watson sank a 40-footer on her final hole to earn medalist honors with a four over par 220.
Senior Lalita Patipaksiri led the Anteaters with a 23rd place finish, carding a 230 (80-73-77) over three rounds. Redshirt freshman Michelle Yang recorded a team best 74 on the final round Tuesday and ended the tournament tied for 32nd place with a score of 234 (85-75-74). Sophomore Ronnie Valerio placed 48th with a score of 238 (82-76-80), while freshman Brenna Carlson was tied for 67th at 247 (79-80-88) and sophomore Sara Banke was tied for 70th with a total of 248 (82-85-81).
UCI will head to Nevada Wolf Pack Classic Oct. 3-4 at the Dalton Valley Country Club.
