Final Results
IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine finished fourth in the Asics/UCI Invitational at the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC) Fields Saturday morning.
The 'Eaters scored 125 points in the 13-team field as Cal State San Marcos won the event with 66 points, one better than UC San Diego. The Master's College was third with 109.
Redshirt junior Rex Nelson led UCI with an eighth-place finish of 25:31.5 over the 8,000-meter course as John Gilbertson of The Master's finished first in a course-record time of 24:24.0 in the 148-runner field.
UCI sophomore Steven Melena was 10th in 25:38.2, Brennen Halliday 36th in 26:14.8 and Ryan McMonigle 40th in 26:18.7.
Matt Neev finished 44th (26:26.3), Andrew Snyder 46th (26:29.2) and Tommy Newton-Neal 53rd (26:37.8) to round out UCI's top seven.
The Anteaters journey to Mammoth for a week of training and return to competition Sept. 24 at the Stanford Invitational.
