OMAHA, Neb. --- Enrique Cardenas (Coachella / Coachella Valley HS) led the way with a pair of goals for UCI in a 4-0 victory over Nebraska-Omaha Sunday in the Mavericks' first-ever game at UNO Soccer Field.
Cardenas scored the second and third goals for the 'Eaters in the 31st and 62nd minute. Both goals were assisted by Miguel Ibarra (Lancaster / Taft College).
Bookending Cardenas' goals were Christian Hernandez (Palmdale / Palmdale HS) in the 20th minute off a penalty shot and Lester Hayes II (Alexandria, Va. / De Matha Catholic HS) with his first goal as an 'Eater in the 72nd minute.
Andrew Fontein (Las Vegas, Nev. / Sierra Vista HS) stood firm in goal with a pair of saves to record his second consecutive shutout.
Nebraska-Omaha was coming off a win in the program's first-ever match Friday. The Mavericks earned four yellow cards in the match against UCI Sunday.
UCI goes to 2-0 on the season with its next match coming Friday, Sept. 2 as the Anteaters host Gonzaga as part of a doubleheader. The women will tackle Hawaii at 6 p.m. at Anteater Stadium followed by an 8 p.m. match for the men vs. Gonzaga.
