Men's Soccer Finishes with Second-Highest Final Ranking
December 13, 2011 | Men's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif. --- The NSCAA/Continental Tire final season rankings were out with UC Irvine men's soccer ranked 13th.
After one of their most successful campaigns with a 16-6-1 record, the Anteaters, who were ranked as high as fifth this season and entered the postseason as the No. 8 national seed, finished in the top 25 for fourth straight season.
UCI's highest ranking came in 2008 when they finished 10th. Since then, it has finished 25th, in 2009, 22nd, in 2010, and now this 2011 season finishing 13th.
Another accolade to report was Miguel Ibarra (Lancaster / Taft College) who was named to a College Soccer News First Team All-American. Ibarra was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week on Nov. 14th joining Enrique Cardenas (Coachella / Coachella Valley HS) and Jimmy Turner (Mission Viejo / Mission Viejo HS).
Ibarra is the fourth Anteater to be named a CSN All-American joining Irving Garcia from 2009, Matt Murphy from 2008, and Brad Evans from 2006. Ibarra does hold the distinction of being the only one of those four to be named to the first team.
