Fontein Named Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Second Team All-American
December 12, 2011 | Men's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif. --- Andrew Fontein (Las Vegas, Nev. / Sierra Vista HS) finished the season among the finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award earning Second Team honors.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring.
Fontein is the third Anteater athlete, joining baseball alums Ben Orloff and Daniel Bibona, to be a finalist for the award. Women's soccer player, CoCo Goodson (Ramona / University of Texas) was nominated for the award this season, as well. This is just the fifth year for the award in soccer.
Fontein, who has been a cornerstone for the men's soccer program since entering as a freshman in 2008, finished one of his best campaigns with a program single-season high 16 wins, and finished his career as UCI's winningest keeper. He also tops men's soccer records books in shutouts, goals-against-average, and matches played.
